A key factor for successful flooring installation is selecting the right adhesive.

Flooring adhesives have a direct impact on the structural integrity, longevity, and performance of your flooring – as well as in the finish and visual appeal of your floors.

Here are some important factors to keep in mind when choosing an adhesive to install your flooring:

• Substrate: The kind of subfloor on which you are installing (wood, concrete, gypsum) and the condition of the subfloor (level, clean of old adhesive, and free of moisture) are important.
• Flooring Type: Consider the kind of flooring you are installing: Carpet or carpet tile, wood or engineered wood, luxury vinyl plank (LVP) or luxury vinyl tile (LVT), vinyl composition tile (VCT). Keep in mind that some flooring products are more dimensionally stable than others, and that determines the type of adhesive that is best for your installation.
• Environment: The temperature and humidity level in the area where you are installing the flooring: Tropical environments with a high level of humidity, radiant-heated environments, environments with climate changes per season, and environments with year-round artificial climate, among others.
• Load Tolerance: When the installation is taking place in a commercial environment with high traffic, make sure to choose a urethane-based or epoxy adhesive to withstand rolling loads and heavy furniture.
• Time Frame: How quickly your flooring needs to be installed is an important factor. Keep this in mind because some adhesives dry and cure faster than others.
