Pro Tip: The type of backing your carpet has, and the subfloor over which you are installing, determine how well the adhesive bonds.
Carpet installation requires careful preparation to ensure it has a professionally- installed look and excels in durability. Key steps when installing carpet include cleaning and repairing your subfloor, selecting high-quality padding, and choosing the right adhesive.
Here are some suggestions to help you choose the right adhesive for your carpet installation:
- ROBERTS 3095 High Performance Carpet Adhesive is formulated for the most demanding carpet installations. It secures most commercial carpet with rigid backings, including closed cell backings.
- ROBERTS 3087 Carpet Adhesive is a formulation developed for direct and double glue down installation of commercial and residential carpet, felt-backed sheet vinyl, and acoustical cork underlayment.
- ROBERTS 4002 Latex Carpet Pad Adhesive is an environmentally friendly formulation that quickly bonds carpet pads to subfloors in stretch-in carpet installations. It adheres to bonded foam, synthetic foam, and rubber carpet padding and can be used in residential and commercial areas.
- ROBERTS 6700 Indoor/Outdoor Carpet Adhesive is ideal for use in enclosed patios or sunrooms, as well as basements, and can be used to adhere most indoor/outdoor carpets with polypropylene (ActionBac), rubber-backed (foam, waffle), closed-cell urethane foam back, tufted, woven or non-woven/needle-bond backings.
- Capitol CA480 Premium Carpet Adhesive is a solvent-free, commercial-grade carpet adhesive developed for high performance in even the most demanding installations. Ideal for most commercial carpet, including installations for heavy traffic areas.
- To quickly bond carpet pads to sub floors in stretch-in carpet installation, Capitol CPA039-1 Latex Carpet Pad Adhesive is a great choice.
Don’t forget the Seam Sealers: They are key to professional carpet installation because they lock the cut edges of the carpet backing, preventing them from fraying, unraveling, or delaminating over time. Applying a proper sealer fuses the seam together, keeps loose tufts from being snagged by vacuums, and protects the original look of your carpet. Great choices for seam sealers include:
- ROBERTS 8015 UNIVERSAL Carpet Seam Sealer, a formula developed for seaming most types of carpet to prevent unraveling and delaminating. This sealer can also be used to repair bubbling in existing carpet.
- ROBERTS 8502 Latex Carpet Seam Sealer, a high-quality natural latex adhesive formulated for seam sealing carpet, sealing raw edges, binding, strengthening worn backings and applying new backings on area rugs.
- Capitol AC17 Latex Carpet Seam Sealer, a latex-based, carpet seam sealer, specially formulated to prevent edge raveling and seal seams of most residential carpet. With the additional advantage that it's also a natural rubber, fabric adhesive for binding, cloth tape seaming and face repairs.
