Pro Tip: When selecting a tile leveling system, prioritize compatibility with tile thickness, matching the system to your project's grout joint width to ensure a flat, lippage-free finish.

Tile Leveling Systems are especially important for installation of large-format tiles. They are a great way to ensure tile surfaces are perfectly flat (or "level"), and to prevent lippage, which is when one tile edge sits higher than the adjacent one. They consist of plastic clips and wedges or caps that lock tiles into the same plane while the mortar sets, serving both floor and wall applications.

Tile leveling systems are designed to eliminate uneven edges. They are not, however, a substrate fix and cannot fix an uneven, wavy subfloor.

Here are some key factors when choosing a tile leveling system:

  • Tile Size and Type: Large format tiles (over 12" x 12") require a strongly-built leveling system to handle their weight and bowing.
  • Thickness Range: Ensure the clips match your tile thickness.
  • Grout Joint Size: Select clips that provide your desired grout joint width.
  • Clip-and-Wedge Systems, like QEP's LASH and LASH XL systems, are excellent for getting high pressure, though they require a bit more manual dexterity something QEP's Pro Installation Pliers help with.
  • Spin-Cap Systems, like QEP's LASH 360, are user-friendly and often better for DIY projects to prevent over-tightening or damaging tiles, especially when paired with a QEP Protection Plate.
