Pro Tip: Always choose a resilient flooring adhesive according to the environment where it will be installed, and keep in mind what lies beneath - your subfloor.
Resilient flooring adhesives are specialized, heavy-duty bonding agents formulated to permanently or semi-permanently secure flooring materials like Luxury Vinyl Tile (LVT), Luxury Vinyl Plank (LVP), Vinyl Composition Tile (VCT), rolled vinyl sheet flooring, and vinyl-backed carpet tile to subfloors, while withstanding moisture and heavy foot traffic.
ROBERTS offers a wide range of acrylic latex, hard-set, and universal resilient adhesives to best meet your needs.
Here are some important guidelines to help you choose:
Always Consider the Subfloor: If you are installing over a porous subfloor like wood or concrete, a water-based acrylic adhesive or a standard pressure-sensitive adhesive like ROBERTS 6280 Pressure Sensitive Releasable Multi-Flooring Adhesive will work well. For installation of resilient flooring (like LVT/LVP or sheet goods) over a non-porous substrate, your best choice will depend on your specific traffic and application needs.
Three great choices include:
- ROBERTS 2350 Hard-Set Adhesive is ideal for heavy rolling loads. This hard-setting formula is excellent over non-porous substrates and highly resistant to plasticizer migration.
- ROBERTS 6399 Firm Set Transitional Pressure Sensitive Adhesive, a high-tack, pressure-sensitive adhesive that installs like a wet-set adhesive but cures into a permanent bond. It is perfect for heavy-traffic interior areas and tolerates up to 99% RH.
- ROBERTS 7350 Universal Adhesive, a versatile, acrylic, pressure-sensitive adhesive that provides a strong bond over non-porous substrates.
Check the Moisture & Alkalinity: Check the Relative Humidity (RH) limit of the adhesive. A high-performance adhesive like ROBERTS 6399 Firm Set Transitional Pressure Sensitive Adhesive, that handles up to 99% RH, is ideal for installations in high-humidity areas.
Consider Traffic & Rolling Loads: If your floor will be exposed to heavy traffic like hospital beds, wheelchairs, or heavy furniture, choose a hard-setting adhesive like ROBERTS 6399 Firm Set Transitional Pressure Sensitive Adhesive, an aggressive, high-tack transitional adhesive with superior shear strength and high resistance to lateral forces, making it ideal for heavy traffic.
Plasticizer Migration Resistance: When installing vinyl-backed products (like LVT), ensure the adhesive is plasticizer-resistant. An adhesive like ROBERTS 2350 Hard-Set Adhesive, a hard-set, acrylic latex formulation that provides high initial grab and outstanding resistance to plasticizer migration, makes it perfect for fiberglass-backed sheet vinyl, LVT, LVP, and rubber tiles. Capitol Universal Resilient Flooring Adhesive is a reliable single-pack adhesive engineered to bond LVT, VCT, and vinyl sheet goods. It forms a permanent or releasable bond and provides superior resistance to moisture and plasticizer migration.
