Pro Tip: Buy more tile spacers than you think you need. A large room requires hundreds of clips, and running out mid-job can delay your project.

Tile spacers are designed to space tiles a uniform distance from another and give grout space to harden properly. They are essential for creating consistent, straight grout lines and ensuring even spacing during tile installation.

The most common tile spacers are:

  • Cross Spacers - Also called X-shaped or Traditional Spacers: They are the standard choice for grid-pattern layouts. They are designed to be inserted at the intersections where four tiles meet.
  • T-Shaped Spacers: Often used for edging or around fixtures, they are best for offset patterns or where three tiles meet.
  • Horseshoe Shim Spacers: U-shaped, they are preferred for vertical applications like backsplashes and wall tiles, or leveling stone/marble, as they are easy to insert and remove without getting stuck.
  • Wedge Spacers: Ideal for vertical applications and adjusting the height of tiles, allowing for fine-tuning the alignment of large or uneven tiles.

It is important to keep in mind that the size of the spacer and the use go hand. The most common spacer sizes are:

  • 1/16": Used for rectified tiles with smooth edges to achieve a modern, minimal, and near-seamless appearance.
  • 1/8": A good choice for residential floors and walls, providing a good balance between a thin line and accommodating slight irregularities.
  • 3/16" to 1/4": Ideal for textured, natural stone, or handmade tiles that have irregular edges, allowing more space for compensation.
  • 3/8" or larger: Best for rustic installations, thick tiles, or outdoor projects where wider lines allow for movement and better drainage.
